Railroads drove the expansion of the economy and population of North America.  This course will start with the earliest railroads including "The Best Friend of Charleston" which was among the first steam locomotives in the United States.  We will go through the Civil War and how railroads played a major part in the war and the impact of the Transcontinental Railroads politically and economically.  The second part of this course will be offered in the spring 2021 session.
