DAY 1: Join Anderson University Lifelong Learning as we enjoy a Special Autumn Getaway to North Carolina.  Our adventure begins as we head north toward Hamlet, NC, where we will visit the Hamlet Depot and Museum following an included lunch en route.  Located in the only Victorian Queen Anne Train station in North Carolina, the Hamlet Depot serves as an active passenger depot and home to the Hamlet Depot & Museums. The hands-on exhibits, visual displays, and interactive consoles encourage both young and old alike to explore the history of the Seaboard Railroad and Hamlet. From Oral Histories to the Model Railroad to the Tornado Locomotive Replica, this Museum offers something fun for everyone.

Next, we will visit The National Railroad Museum and Hall of Fame, a transportation museum in Hamlet. It opened in 1976 and is adjacent to the restored 1900 passenger station. The museum features an 1898 map of the Seaboard Air Line Railroad that lights up key routes. Other exhibits demonstrate how rail wheels have changed over time and explain various jobs on the railroads. The museum has had visitors from all 50 states and more than 30 countries.  Our overnight will be in the Monroe, NC area, following dinner on our own.

DAY 2: Following breakfast this morning, we will visit the Billy Graham Library.   After entering the dairy barn-styled library, a flowing exhibit invites us to follow One Man’s Journey” from the pastures and gravel roads of North Carolina to “big tents” and arenas in America’s largest cities; to stadiums, televisions, and radios across the globe.  Displays of historic backdrops alternate with multimedia screening theaters showing events and milestones of Mr. Graham’s lifelong mission—to tell others about the love of Christ.  The library includes a bookstore—named “Ruth’s Attic” after his wife Ruth Bell Graham, an author, poet, and lover of literature and offers unique gifts of Christian literature. We will relax in the rustic café, have a bite to eat, and contemplate what we have experienced in the Graham family homeplace and library.

As we head toward home, we’ll make a stop at Prime Outlets, in Gaffney, SC, for a little shopping time and lunch on our own.  This great location features over 80 brand-name stores.  We’re sure to find some bargains!  By late afternoon we arrive back in Anderson.
